Good home country cooking. It's a little on the pricey side. Buffet is outstanding! Friendly service.

This place was one of my favorite places ever. Great meats and vegetables, and superb pies, and all I could eat. Maybe I hit it on an off day, but I doubt it. First off, it was the first time I went where they didn't have fried chicken. It was grilled, and OK, but it wasn't fried chicken. The fried fish was really good, but the (I guess) smothered steak was just OK. Vegetables - the corn tasted frozen, the carrots sliced too thin and almost raw, the green beans over cooked. The apple pie was too sugary, and the chocolate pie was just average. Not "bad" food; just not great, like it used to be. I won't be going back.

We dined as a family for the breakfast buffet. Where do I start. The entire selection of food was either undercooked or undercooked. The butter was straight from the fridge and ice cold. The food was just tasteless and the pancakes were stiff. The coffee wasn’t even warm. We were charged for an extra buffet because my two year old ate a biscuit. We had high expectations to enjoy a good meal as a family. however we will Never eat there again !!!

Greattttt food, great service and friendly staff. And only a quarter mile off I-10 in Columbus, Texas. Fantastic buffet all day and super orders off the menu. You will love it too.

Good food, friendly service, super clean and nicely appointed family-style, small-town restaurant! Cool snack, dessert storefront too!

Very good food, friendly staff, one of the good one’s. You won’t regret eating here.

This place is not only a great restaurant for locals it is also a wonderful spot for I-10 travelers. What they offer is just good old American comfort food. They do have menu service, but most go for the top notch buffet. The place is clean, the food is fresh and tasty, and the staff is courteous and friendly. Give this place a visit.

Decent restaurant with good food. Ordered country fried steak, tastes better than most that I've had. Staff was was nice, responsive, and made sure we got what we needed. My experience was exactly what I expect for this sort of place. Can't ask for more than that.

I stopped by here when passing through Columbus. I grew up eating at Schobels. It isn't what I remember from 30 years ago, but I did just have the salad bar which probably isn't their bread and butter. It is a cozy restaurant though, and the pies looked amazing.

We were able to dine-in! Traveling through this area and found this place was open on Mother's Day for dine-in. It was great-- both the care they took for health safety and the care they took for the delicious food. No condiments on the tables, half the tables were removed, every other booth was not seated, servers used masks and gloves, this is probably the safest dining expelled we've ever had! The food was great- everything! Thanks!

Really great CFS. Sweet staff. A very relaxing place to eat when you are on the road.

Lovely service, great food, and AWESOME chocolate meringue!

Oh my goodness, this jalapeno wiener schnitzel is the best I've ever had. If you like the heat, get you some of this baby! Way better than kings beer gardens schnitzels, and a better price tag. The waitresses was nice too so we'll definitely be going back.

Trying to avoid heavy traffic on I-10 north to a side road to the down town area where we came appon this resturant. Great place , very clean and very clean restrooms . Service was a little slow but the food made up for it . The food was great , the coffee hot and very good . Handicap parking available.

This Columbus staple has only gotten better over the years. I've grown up in Columbus my whole life eating breakfast/lunch after Sunday mass here was a must. All the renovations inside make this place really feel like home. We had the veggie omlet and The Usual both were great! The grits were nothing special though but the biscuits were amazing! If you're passing through definitely give this place a try.

This is the traditional, American/Texas cuisine restaurant that is known for it's excellent service, local beef and unique beef seasonings. If you want to know what Texas food used to taste like over 70 years ago (mouth watering vegetables, meat seasoned to perfection) then look no further. You have to stop here if you are on your way to either San Antonio or Austin!

I lovely, country style German/American establishment! Service, Food, and Value were all great. What more could you ask for! Check the prices of the drinks however.

I’ve literally been eating here since I was born! The food is amazing, buffet is the perfect quick meal and the gift shop is super cute! Highly recommend!

Awesome Food and great Service! Friendly people in this town. Just passing by on Interstate 10 and decided to drop in and no regrets.

We are from Alaska, this buffet was awesome. Very nice salad bar, fresh, and huge serving spoons! The other food was also great. Our server was older and sassy, which made it fun. Oh and the crazy part was that the buffet was only $11.50! We are always shocked at how cheap and fresh things are in the lower 48.

Always great foods and great service here at Schobel's!! We opted for the buffet this trip, but they do have a good menu to choose from and also a children's menu. Their sweet tea is the best!!! We stop here when we're in the area.

Good food, extremely kind staff, clean restaurant, exactly what we needed on our road trip.

GREAT food! My husband raved about the flounder. He has a very particular palate. If he likes something, it must be good. I had fried green tomatoes. They were presented well and very tasty. Our server Luke was great too. The only downside to the whole experience was a racial epithet directed at us by some other customers seated nearby when were seated, but that's nothing against the establishment.

Lovely pie and good coffee. We passed the buffet as we were seated, and the fried chicken and home-style cooked dishes smelled and lookedappetizing. From the huge crowd for late lunch, it must be good.My buttermilk pie had flaky crust, tasted tart and sweet in just the right proportions, and I was sad it was finished. I would return for the buffet that includes dessert, too. Pictures below of buffet and sale desserys.

Good "Homestyle" menu. Chicken Noodle soup was really good. Our waiter was great and sincere about his favorites from the kitchen. Amazing Key Lime Pie!!!

The best sunday buffet that I have tried so far. Fried chicken, roast beef, and sausage. Fresh salads and great German chocolate cake.

Schobel's staff was very friendly and our waitress, Summer, was great. The chicken vegetable soup was Ahhhmazing, salad bar has a large variety of items as well as toppings and dressings, and our chicken fried steaks were delicious! We pass through Columbus fairly frequently, but never when it's time to eat. We will definitely have to rethink our travel timing and stop in again.
Mr. Grinda
Exceptional chicken fried steak. One of the best I've had in a very long time and am looking forward to coming back in the future. The atmosphere is rustic and cozy. The wait staff is attentive, but not breathing down your neck like at so many other places. Very well worth stopping for a meal while traveling along IH 10.

I like the place. Food is good and they have a salad bar. Service use to be slow. It is much better.

Breakfast ends at 11am.Buffett starts after that for lunch and dinner. Food was fresh and good. It gets crowded but they have the room. Half way between San Antonio and Houston off of, I10.

Love this place. Great German food. We stop here almost every time we drive to Houston and back. I really love the schnitzel with jalapeño gravy. And the red cabbage. Wow!
Mark Kirschke
Excellent food at a very reasonable price. Very friendly waitress provided top notch service. Lunch buffet, with many excellent entrees, is only $12.95. The Wiener Schnitzel was excellent, super crispy breading with juicy tender pork. Many one person bathrooms for privacy. The Mens room has football jerseys and helmets from thr son who played at TCU. Lots of sweets and baked goods available for purchase at the checkout. This will be our new spot to stop on the way to Austin and the hill country.

Nice place for a comfort food buffet. Service was great. Has a small area for gift candies and sauces

Amazing service and high quality food. You truly feel home. Don’t miss the Pecan Pie !
Patty Gonzales
Best pies ever! To go of course. Buttermilk and coconut cream are the bomb.
Carlos Vasquez
Extremely GOOD! Good service great breakfast buffet which includes eggs to order. Will definitely be back next time we're passing through Columbus, Texas.

A very nice family owned small town restaurant. The menu is buffet style that features good old country cooking with plenty of choices for both the salad bar and the entree lines. Don't expect any thing fancy. It's not that kind of place. It's the kind of place where you are made to feel welcome by friendly and attentive staff, you encouraged to eat your fill and will want to stop in for an affordable delicious meal whenever you pass by.
John McNeley
The hamburger steak was large and wonderful. Other food taste was very good. Only complaint was a $13.95 chicken fried steak was very small compared to all other food establishments. For that price expected a lot more than that. Not sure ounces but was about 4" square. Great service.

Stopped in and picked up Thanksgiving dinner yesterday and it was splendid! Turkey was tender and juicy, dressing was like home and the desserts were to die for. The chocolate meringue pie was my fave and my husband loved the pecan. We still have a piece of buttermilk pie so that's tonight!

Was just cruising back to San Antonio and saw a sign saying.."you deserve pie".I said to my wife, "yes, yes we do deserve pie", - and promptly annoyed the navigation lady by turning off..!Car park was almost overflowing, but once inside we understood why. It was superb..I had never tried catfish before, it's delicious! In fact the whole buffet was quite superb with a massive selection that even my vegetarian wife couldn't complain about, they pretty much catered for everyone..Wish it was closer to home!.Friendly and very helpful staff too, couldn't fault it.If you see the sign, STOP...YOU, deserve pie...(and catfish)..Loved it.

If I could give them more stars I would. This is our second time, and there will be many many more to come. Service ask for Gloria. Hands down the best waitress of all time. Food, unbelievable, if I imagine what food will taste like in Heaven, it would be this. The best friend chicken ever made. The only problem...is leaving, and that we live so far away. But I can't wait to try the buttermilk pie that I got to-go!Signed...wish my atomic was bigger!

Great food and great service. We came from Houston to enjoy their buffet.

Quick in and out. Attentive wait staff. Clean. Good value. Meal was the salad bar. Quite satisfying

One of the best buffets in Texas. If you are driving between Houston and Austin, you must stop here. They have an outstanding chicken fried steak.
Kevin Loonam
The lunch buffet is a great way to do a quick sit down lunch. The salad bar is well stocked and there's a good array of stuff to choose from. The only thing that lacked was the brisket. Also, I thought the barbecue sauce was a bit too sweet.

Excellent food must go if your in Columbus Texas

Nice staff, went through the drive through. Fast service but no plasticware, napkins, in my to go order. The chicken fried steak is great but if you like true southern fried green tomatoes don't order these. They trying to be fancy with tomato sauce and blue cheese. Disappointment
